A few years ago, we received a comment from the Swedish Work Environment Authority and realized that in the “Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations and general advice on organizational and social work environment” there are some interesting reflections to make:

  • You must have work environment goals (you do not need to write them down if you have fewer than 10 employees, feel good) that should promote health and counteract ill health. So far, so good.
  • De knowledge managers and supervisors should possess specified to Prevent and manage unhealthy workload and offensive treatment. It is certainly given examples of the effects of these phenomena and that the employees (that is you and me) should be involved when goals are set, but it still feels as though your boss may have knowledge gaps if they limit their management to the above.
  • Workers should know what they are doing, why they do it and who they can afford, which makes sense. I haven't read the last edition but maybe it is 10 § "The employer should make sure the workers know"… that is breaking news.
  • After the social work environment is defined as "Conditions and conditions that include social interaction, cooperation and social support from managers and colleagues" (in short: How do I enjoy working at the job?), The area is left almost as untouched as iced pavements, with the exception of unhealthy workload or victimization.

The social work environment is no longer discussed without:

  • The Swedish Work Environment Authority leaves with warm hand the work to clarify and improve a company's working climate Yesbox. Although they do not directly recommend to all companies to contact us, it is written in writing (between the lines)!
  • It is believed that the social work environment is completely covered by knowledge about "preventing and managing" unhealthy workload and abusive discrimination. If companies manage this, they have an acceptable social work environment.

Although reasons (2) may be more likely, it is probably not the level your company is aiming for, at least not if it wants dedicated employees who give the iron to sell, deliver and support customers. On the other hand, it may be at this level that your business is actually, at least if you believe Gallup's survey which shows that under 20% of all employees in Sweden are engaged.

And it is now the insight strikes me: The Work Environment Authority really want improve the social work environment, you just do not really know how, and you therefore leave it to Yesbox to design the fire letter, call it a § 15: “Before 31 March 2016, the employer must introduce STARS measurements, DRIV and Yesbox Conversations so that the social work environment is based on the employees' values and driving forces and the high level is maintained by using the latest findings in brain research on an ongoing basis in follow-up. " Read AFS 2015: 4 and see if you come to the same insight! 😉

Hope we see you out there!
